Ironstone Brewing
Our Story

Brewing Since
1998.

"We never set out to build a brand. We just wanted to make beer that we were actually proud to drink."

— Tom & Linda Marsh, Founders
How it started

Ironstone Brewing started in a Red Deer garage in 1998, when Tom Marsh — a hobby brewer with a background in engineering — decided to take his homebrewing seriously. What began as a 100-litre pilot system in a residential garage became, over five years, a fully licensed 10-barrel microbrewery.

The name comes from the ironstone formations scattered across central Alberta — tough, honest, built to last. That's the standard Tom and Linda have held every batch to since day one.

Today Ironstone brews four year-round beers and one seasonal, operates a 60-seat taproom, and distributes to restaurants and liquor stores across central Alberta.

What we believe

The Ironstone Standard

Small Batches Only

We brew 10 barrels at a time, every time. It keeps us honest, keeps quality consistent, and means every keg gets our full attention.

Alberta First

We source Alberta barley and wheat wherever possible, and we've never distributed outside the province. We're a Red Deer brewery — not a national brand.

No Shortcuts

We don't rush fermentation, we don't cut ingredients, and we don't put our name on anything we wouldn't drink ourselves.

Community Rooted

We've sponsored local events, sports teams, and charities for over 25 years. Red Deer built us — we try to give that back.

The Taproom.

Our taproom seats 60 and pours all four year-round beers plus whatever's in the pilot tank. We also do brewery tours on the first Saturday of every month — no reservation needed, just show up.
